FLAU news: aus Remix Album 'Revise' & Rayons' new single
ft. Li Yilei, Red Snapper, John Beltran, Hanakiv, Patricia Wolf & many more
new release
aus - Revise
Tokyo-born composer and producer aus, is set to release a special collection of remixes of his recent album ‘Everis’ on the 27th of October 2023.
‘Revise’ features ten new, truly innovative reinterpretations from Li Yilei, Ocean Moon, John Beltran, Rebelski, Marucoporoporo, Red Snapper, Hanakiv, JQ, Grantby, and Patricia Wolf.
Each track will be individually released digitally as a single in the run up to the album and launch with Chinese artist and composer Li Yilei’s take on ‘Steps’.
I recorded the track using a Uher reel-to-reel tape recorder. Initially, I began this remix without listening to the entire song. Instead, I went through each individual stem, regarding them as distinct sonic archives and artefacts, trying to map out and reimagine a new reality, sonic space and dialogue. After a few days of immersive listening practice, the stems started to sound more like field recordings from a delicate piece of past memory - something nostalgic, accessible, warming and familiar. Eventually, the feeling led me to the idea of recording the samples all onto tapes- a medium that carries echoes of the past, its delicacy, graininess and lightness. After listening to the somewhat fragmented long recordings on the reels all at once, it began to sound like an experimental sonic scratch book with collaged samples, I proceeded to cut out tape loops, and then I recorded and rearranged them using software. The entire experience feels like forging an eternal liaison between the analogue echoes and the surgical precision of the digital realm. - Li Yilei

Rayons - Aqua Spirit
Rayons, the visionary artist renowned for infusing the world of post-classical music with the delicacy and emotional depth of Japanese aesthetics, is set to captivate audiences once more with her latest release, "Aqua Spirit." This musical composition, which combines the simplicity of solo piano notes with the sweeping grandeur of strings, promises to invite listeners to embark on a harmonious dive into contemporary soundscapes.
The title Aqua Spirit, evokes the fluidity and depth of the composition. Much like the ebb and flow of water, Rayons' music invites listeners to immerse themselves in a world where emotions surge and recede. The solo piano notes serve as the tranquil surface of a vast musical ocean, while the strings add layers of emotional complexity, creating a profound sense of depth.

Rayons - A Fragment of Summer
Rayons, the solo project of Masako Nakai, presents the second installment of her digital single series following "Luminescence", featuring a long-awaited piano solo. With minimal motifs and rhythms, this poignant composition evokes fragments of the Japanese summer. It beautifully narrates the lingering essence of summer, reminiscent of moments after fireworks, festivals, or any special occasion, through the subtle and expressive notes of the piano.
While the song is a fragment of summer, it evokes many fragments of summer, like a beam of light shot through a prism, dazzling with an iridesence of vignettes and beaming photos - Yes/No Music

Teams + Noah + Repeat Pattern - KWAIDAN
The album turned 5 years now. KWAIDAN is collection of reverb soaked harmonies leaning on a couch of field recordings and heavy drums all accompanying the vocals of flau’s Noah. Songs referencing Japanese folk tales about ghosts and spirits presented, not in the usual tone of a ghost story but rather, in a romanticized air of normalcy and matter-of-factness.
